New Delhi: Army Chief General Manoj Pandey said amid the ongoing tension with China that the situation on the northern border is under control and the Indian Army is ready to deal with any situation. Apart from this, regarding terrorism, he said that support to terrorism from across the border continues. Regarding the China border, General Manoj Pandey said that continuous discussions are going on with China at the military and diplomatic levels. The situation on the northern border is under control. The army is ready to deal with any situation. 

During the press conference, the Army Chief told that the situation on the northern border is stable but unpredictable. On the other hand, regarding the discussion with China, said that during the discussion on the plain, 5 out of 7 issues were resolved. Adequate measures have been taken in connection with the preparedness. Along with this, regarding the ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir, he said that the situation is fine there too, but cross-border support for terrorism continues. However, there has been a lot of reduction in violent incidents. General Manoj Pandey told that there has been rapid development of our infrastructure on LAC. In the last 5 years, about 6,000 kilometers of roads have been constructed on the border. Out of this, construction work has been done on the 2,100 km northern border. Apart from this, a 7450-meter bridge has been constructed. Frontier Highway is being constructed in the state. Now there will be connectivity in every season for 12 months.

The Zoji-la Tunnel connecting the valley to Ladakh will be ready by the end of this year. Shinku-La tunnel is in the last phase for Ladakh. It will provide alternate connectivity to Leh. In addition, there will be alternate connectivity from the Saser La tunnel to the DS-DBO road. General Pandey informed that in the last 3 years, about Rs 1,300 crores has been spent on infrastructure. The army chief said that there has been a slight increase in troops by China in the Eastern Command (Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim). At the same time, on the supply of arms, said that the army is considering alternative sources of supply of arms and ammunition amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict. General Pandey said that the Russia-Ukraine conflict has led to an assessment of weapon systems and ammunition from Russia. We have got permission to import around 40 items for the next 2-3 years. We are also looking at alternative sources of supply. These steps for the indigenous industry are good opportunities to expand and meet our needs. As we move forward, we will overcome this challenge.
