Beirut: Lebanese military experts and their French helpers have found 79 containers with hazardous chemicals in the port of Beirut. These containers have been found where a deadly explosion took place earlier this month. The Lebanese army said in a statement on Monday, "Between 14 and 22 August, 25 containers of hydrochloric acid, as well as 54 containers with other chemicals, have been found, the leak of which has become dangerous."
On August 4, the Lebanese capital Beirut witnessed an unprecedented powerful explosion, which has also caused havoc in the port of Beirut, several kilometres from its epicentre. Entire districts adjoining the port area is being destroyed.
Improper storage of explosive ammonium nitrate in Beirut harbour has caused massive explosions, widespread destruction and more than 170 casualties, and more than 40,000 others have been injured. The Lebanese government has declared a state of emergency in the capital and has resigned in less than a week. In the meantime, public anger was aroused and thousands of protesters were on the streets of Beirut.
