Arrest Made: Professor in Assam Accused of Sexual Assault on Students

GUWAHATI: A shocking incident has come to light at North Lakhimpur College in Assam, where an assistant professor has been apprehended for allegedly sexually assaulting students while under the influence of alcohol within the college premises. The accused, identified as Dr. Hemanta Sarmah, who teaches Assamese subjects in the college.

Disturbing reports suggest that several female students were victimized by Sarmah while he was intoxicated during his classes. Alarmed by the seriousness of the situation, a total of 58 college students took the courageous step of formally complaining in writing to Dr. Biman Chetia, the college principal. According to their statements, Sarmah had been teaching under the influence on two separate occasions last week.

Acting swiftly upon the complaints, the principal lodged a formal report with the Lakhimpur Police Station, leading to Sarmah's arrest on Sunday.

In a surprising turn of events, Sarmah vehemently denies any wrongdoing and alleges that a conspiracy has been orchestrated against him.

As authorities delve deeper into this distressing matter, investigations are still ongoing.
