New Delhi: Today is the birth anniversary of Khudiram Bose, the youngest freedom fighter who got hanged with the Bhagwat Gita in his hands. He was born on this day in 1889. Khudiram was hanged in the early hours of August 11, 1908, in the Central Jail in connection with the bomb blast in front of the Muzaffarpur Club targeting oppressive judge Kingsford. The country can never forget his sacrifice.

It is worth mentioning that Khudiram Bose and Prafulla Chandra Chaki broke the silence that prevailed for 50 years after the sepoy mutiny started by Mangal Pandey was suppressed by the British in the year 1857. Both the brave sons had blasted the bomb in front of the Muzaffarpur Club on 30 April 1908 challenging the British Government. However, the explosion was timed to kill the oppressive Judge Kingsford. But its victim was the daughter and wife of an English lawyer. Khudiram was hanged in the Central Jail on 11 August 1908 in the morning in this case of a bomb blast.

Let us tell you that the sacrifice of Khudiram Bose did not go in vain. After his martyrdom, there was a wave of patriotism in the country. Khudiram Bose had become exemplary for the youth. The youth and students of Bihar-Bengal started wearing the same dhoti on which Khudiram Bose was written. Famous litterateur Shirol has mentioned this in his book.
