New Delhi: Nanaji Deshmukh was one of the great personalities of our country. Nanaji is primarily known as a social worker. Nanaji had done many important works to end the evil practices spread in the country. Nanaji had seen the rural area of ​​India very closely, he did unprecedented work for its development. Nanaji was always ready to get all the comforts in the village. Nanaji had shown a new way to the lives of people living in rural areas. Nanaji has received many honours in the country and abroad, but in 2019, the Government of India has honored him with the country's biggest award, Bharat Ratna. 

Nanaji was born in a poor Marathi Brahmin family. Since childhood, he had seen poverty very closely, his family had to work hard for daily food. Nanaji's childhood was full of struggle. His parents died when Nanaji Deshmukh was very young. After this, Nanaji was looked after by his maternal uncle. Nanaji did not want to be a burden on anyone, due to which he himself worked hard to earn money. As a child, he also worked as a vegetable seller. The situation was that he used to leave his home to earn money, and then he used to stay where he got support. For many days, Nanaji had also spent living in the temple.

Nanaji was very fond of reading since childhood, even after the shortage of money, this desire of Nanaji did not diminish. Nanaji himself worked hard, raised money from here and there and continued his studies. Nanaji did his high school education from the Sikar district of Rajasthan, where he also got a scholarship for studies. It was around this time that Nanaji met Dr Hedgewar, who was also the founder of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He inspired Nanaji to join the RSS, and also invited him to visit the shakha every day.

After this Dr Hedgewar asked Nanaji to go to Birla College for further college studies. At that time, Nanaji did not have enough money to take admission in this college. Hedgewar ji also tried to help him with money, but self-respecting Nanaji respectfully refused him. After this Nanaji himself worked hard for a few years and raised money. In 1937, Nanaji took admission in Birla College. During this time Nanaji also joined the Sangh and he was also fully active in the work related to it. In 1939, Nanaji did a one-year course for Sangh education.

Nanaji considered Lokmanya Tilak as his ideal, he was highly influenced by his national ideology. After the assassination of Gandhiji in 1948, when RSS was banned, even then Nanaji broke it with his wisdom and continued the work of publication so that things related to the nation could reach the general public. Nanaji had done many important works to improve the level of education in the country. In 1950, he established the country's first Saraswati Shishu Mandir School in Uttar Pradesh, so that everyone in the country could get education easily. The country's first rural university was established by Nanaji in Chitrakoot. He was also the Chancellor of this university. Along with this, Nanaji Deshmukh also started the publication of a magazine named Manthan. Nanaji died in 2010 at the age of 93 in the university established by him in Chitrakoot. Grandfather was ill for a long time, but he did not want to leave Chitrakoot for treatment.
