Former Andhra Pradesh CM Yediguri Sandinthi Rajasekhar (YSR) Reddy is considered a humanitarian leader. He commanded the State twice from 2004 to 2009. On September 2, 2009, his helicopter suddenly disappeared into the forests of Nallamala. His debris was found in Kurnool the next day. All the five people in the helicopter including YSR Reddy have died in the accident. According to media reports, 122 people have died in the state after hearing about the tragic incident. Many of them committed suicide due to a heart attack in shock and some others. Today is reddy's death anniversary on 2nd September.

Reddy was born on July 8, 1949, to a middle-class Christian family in Pulivedula, the eldest of his five siblings. He received his medical education from Gulbarga in Karnataka and became a medical officer in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. In 1973, he built a 70-bed charitable hospital before entering politics. Reddy is married to Vijay Lakshmi, has a son YS Jagan Mohan and a daughter YS Sharmila. Jagan Mohan formed the new party YSR Congress after his father's death and is currently the CM of Andhra Pradesh.

Even after being a Christian, Rajasekhara Reddy often visited the Tirupati temple for darshan. Reddy entered active politics in 1978 and became minister of state for rural development the same year. Thereafter, year after year, he worked in different ministries. In 2004, he was sworn in as the 14th CM of Andhra Pradesh. His winning streak continued in 2009 and was once again elected CM. Even today, Reddy lives in the hearts of the people because of his efforts.
