World Lion Day: 'King of Forest' is now just confined to books and paintings

New Delhi: There was a time when children were scared of the name of a lion. Even the villagers did not like to leave their homes after sunset. But with time, the King of Forest is becoming more endangered. As urbanization is increasing, the number of wild animals is decreasing. Some big animals are now seen only in books. Today is World Lion Day, so let's know about some facts about kings of the forest.

Lion is one of the most widely recognized animal symbols in human culture. Since the 18th century, the lion was the main species sought for exhibition in zoos around the world. Cultural depictions of lions also had an important place during the Stone Age.

The paintings carved 17,000 years ago in Lascox and Chauvet caves in France depicts all ancient and medieval cultures. These things correspond with the former and current categories of lions. Its rapidly extinct population found in northwestern India. These population disappeared from North Africa, the Middle East and West Asia at historical times.
