Actor Arun Govil has played the role of Lord Ram on screen for almost 35 years, and his fans still adore and respect him just as much as they did back in the 1980s. In a recent viral video, the actor is seen praying with joined hands while lying on the ground in front of a woman at the airport and appearing surprised as she touches his feet.
In the video, Arun is seen gazing in awe as a woman wearing a saffron sari bows to him while kneeling on all fours. To prevent the woman from doing that, the actor can be seen gesturing at the other passenger. However, the man also touches the ground just centimeters from the actor's feet as those in the airport, including the actor's wife, stood by and did nothing. He wrapped a yellow dupatta around the woman's neck as a sign of his blessings as she continued her emotional prayer in front of him.
From 1987 to 1988, Arun Govil portrayed Ram in Ramanand Sagar's popular TV series Ramayan. Sunil Lahri played Lakshman and Deepika Chikhalia played Sita in the drama. During the lockdown, the show returned to small screens, to the delight of the viewers. Additionally, he posted a photo of his family enjoying a rerun of Ramayan in the year 2020.
In an interview with PTI in 2020, when asked about his typecasting as Lord Ram, Arun had stated, "After Ramayan, my film career was almost over. I used to act in movies. But because of how compelling the image was, no movies were made. I attempted to break out of the stereotype by working in serials, but it didn't work. Later, I understood that perhaps God wanted me to be "Ram"—how many people have been given this exceptional opportunity? It's a big deal that people now refer to me as Ram rather than Arun Govil.
