There was a time when Ramanand Sagar's serial Ramayan used to appear on TV. At the time when the serial was aired, there was silence on the streets because at that time everyone used to watch Ramayana. Actor Arun Govil played the character of Ram in that great serial Ramayana. The condition of Arun Govil's popularity during the era of Ramayana was that people considered him as Lord Rama, looking at him, folded his hands and touched his feet.

Arun Govil was born on 12 January 1958 in Meerut. It was during his studies that he became fond of performing on stage. Arun got his first break from Tarachandra Badjatya's film Paheli (1977). Then he has played the main characters in films like Sawan Ko Aane, Aisa Si Baat, Himmatwala and Saanch Ko Aanch Nahi. He also played in the TV serial Vikram Betal and was liked by the public. Arun Govil also worked in famous TV shows like Luv Kush, Kaise Kahoon, Aparajita. After becoming famous with the character of Ram, people loved to see Arun Govil in the character of Ram.

Because of this he did not get any good character. After 9-10 years away from films, he tried to get out of the character of Ram and played negative roles, gave bold scenes, but did not succeed. Arun Govil is still known as Rama.
