ITANAGAR: On Tuesday, Arunachal Pradesh celebrated the International Day of Yoga in 45 different locations across the state, joining the rest of the world. Kiren Rijiju, Union Law Minister, presided over the event in Dong, Anjaw district, on the Chinese border.

It is India's easternmost village, located near the intersection of India's, China's, and Myanmar's borders. Dong is the first place in India to see the sunrise, earning it the moniker 'India's Land of the Rising Sun.' At 75 landmark spots around the country, the Ministry of Ayush is commemorating International Day of Yoga.

Brig Dr B D Mishra (Retd), the state governor, presided over the ceremony at Raj Bhavan. The governor, speaking on the occasion, described yoga as a thousands-year-old Indian wellness pursuit practised by ancient intellectuals and sages for physical, mental, and spiritual upliftment. He said, yoga promotes body-mind harmony and allows practitioners to cultivate peace of mind, good health, and a happy attitude.

Mishra stated that the United Nations General Assembly, on the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and following his laudable address to the UN General Assembly on September 17, 2014, declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga on December 14, 2014, with overwhelming support from its members.
