Itanagar: The waters of the Eastern Kameng river in Arunachal Pradesh suddenly turned black and thousands of fish present in the river died. District fisheries officials said that the river water had turned black due to the increased quantity of total decomposed substances in the water. Residents of the Seppa area near the river have blamed China for this. According to him, construction work in China contaminated the river water, causing thousands of fish to die.

The administration has advised people not to eat and catch fish for a few days. District Fisheries Development Officer (DFDO) Hali Tajo said thousands of fish were found dead in the river at district headquarters Seppa on Friday. According to initial findings, the cause of death is the large presence of TDS in water, which prevents aquatic species from seeing or breathing easily.

He said that since the TDS in the river water was very high, the fish had difficulty breathing and seeing. He quoted a report as saying that the TDS in the river was 6,800 mg per litre, much higher than the normal limit of 300-1,200 mg per litre. The official appealed to the people not to eat fish as it could lead to serious health problems.
