The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has rejected the bail plea of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and extended his judicial custody until June 19.

Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), had requested interim bail for seven days on medical grounds. He is currently held at Tihar jail where the Enforcement Directorate is investigating him for alleged money laundering linked to the Delhi Excise Policy case.

The court has instructed the concerned authorities to conduct necessary medical tests.

Kejriwal, aged 55, was arrested on March 21 in connection with the excise policy-linked money laundering case, with the AAP claiming it was an attempt to disrupt the party's election campaign.

He was granted bail by the Supreme Court on May 10 to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections. Following the Supreme Court's refusal to hear his plea for an extension of bail, Kejriwal surrendered on June 2.

In his speeches, Kejriwal, an IIT alumnus and former civil servant who resigned as a tax officer to become an activist and later a politician, portrayed himself as a victim of alleged vindictive politics by the BJP.

He told his supporters that he was imprisoned not because of corruption but because he stood against "dictatorship" and needed their support to protect the Constitution and the country.

"The Supreme Court had given me this time to campaign for the elections. Yesterday marked the completion of 21 days, and now I am heading straight from here to Tihar. These 21 days are very memorable for me. I didn't waste even a single minute; I campaigned 24 hours a day to save the country," he said at the party office before surrendering to the jail on June 2 after his interim bail expired.

The results announced on Tuesday revealed that the AAP-Congress alliance lost in Delhi as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured all seven seats for the third consecutive time.

The AAP-Congress alliance, which contested with a seat-sharing arrangement of 4-3, failed to attract voters in the national capital. However, the INDIA bloc managed to reduce the BJP's vote share from 56.7% in 2019 to 54.35% in 2024. The AAP secured a vote share of 24.17%, while the Congress received 18.91%.
