NEW DELHI: On the second day of the Parliament session, the Lok Sabha witnessed uproar when Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Shafiqur Rahman Burke, after taking oath, termed Vande Mataram as against Islam and said not to raise such slogans. Rahman's remarks triggered uproar from opposition mPs and the swearing-in ceremony had to be postponed for a while.

It may be mentioned that from the very first day of the session, the ruling party MPs are shouting slogans of Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Jai inside the House. In fact, elected members from UP were being sworn in in the Lok Sabha. In this order, the Lok Sabha General Secretary took oath to Shafiqurrahman Burke, the SP MP elected from Sambhal. After taking oath in Urdu, Burke has said that the Constitution of India is alive but as far as Vande Mataram is concerned, it is against Islam and we cannot abide by it.

As soon as the MP said this, the Slogans of Shem-Shem were echoed in the Lok Sabha. After the statement of the SP MP, vande mataram was raised on behalf of the BJP MPs. The Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha, who is sitting on the Chair, said that only the oath will go on record, nothing else will be recorded.
