New Delhi: Days after the elections in five states of the country were over, the prices of domestic cooking gas were hiked along with petrol and diesel on Tuesday. Oil companies on March 22 increased the prices of petrol and diesel by 80 paise after keeping the prices stable for nearly four months. Similarly, domestic cooking gas prices have been increased by Rs 50 per cylinder. After the new price came into effect, the price of petrol in Delhi has gone up to Rs 96.21 per litre and that of diesel to Rs 87.47 per litre. At the same time, the price of a 14.2 kg non-subsidised domestic cooking gas cylinder in Delhi has gone up to Rs 949.50.

After the increase in the prices of petrol-diesel and cooking gas, "Rs 949.50" has started trending on Twitter. Netizens are responding a lot after the price rise. Many of them have shared an old video of Union Minister Smriti Irani and attacked her. It may be noted that in the old video, Smriti Irani sat on a protest in the then UPA government over the rise in cooking gas prices. Social media users have targeted her on the basis of this video.

An old video of Smriti Irani was posted on the same Twitter with the handle @Senthilthanavel saying, '14.2 kg LGP cylinder will now cost 949.50 after an increase of Rs 50.' The video appears to be from the year 2012 when Smriti Irani attacked the then government by holding a press conference after the LGP cylinder prices increased by Rs 11. This video is becoming fiercely viral on the same Twitter.
