New Delhi: Asaram Bapu, who is serving life imprisonment in a case of sexual exploitation of a minor, had filed an application in the High Court for early hearing. Now the bench of Justices Sandeep Mehta and Rameshwar Vyas of the High Court has accepted Asaram's petition. In the petition, he has demanded an early hearing citing his 80 years of age.

Asaram wants to get out of jail as soon as possible. This is possible only when an early hearing on the appeal filed in the High Court against the decision of the subordinate court is completed. Now the hearing will begin on his appeal in the third week of January. The court had proposed a debate on Monday, but Asaram's lawyers were not ready on that day. SC-ST court convict Asaram in a sexual harassment case on 25 April 2018 and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The judgment was challenged in the High Court in the same year by Asaram. Now an appeal was made on that appeal for an early hearing.

Advocate Pradeep Chaudhary, through VC (video conferencing) on behalf of Asaram, argued that he has been in jail since 2013 and is around 80 years of age. In view of his age, the appeal should be heard soon. Given the age of Asaram, the bench also approved the application for an early hearing on the appeal.
