Indian shuttlers Ashmita Chaliha and Malvika Bansod have qualified for the main draw of the women's singles at the Thailand Open Super 500 tournament here on Tuesday. Ashmita defeated Jenny Gei of the United States 21-16 21-18 in the first round, while Malvika defeated compatriot Anupama Upadhyay 21-18 21-8 to make it to the main draw.
India's Thomas Cup winning team members Priyanshu Rajawat, Kiran George and Shubhankar Dey, however, have suffered defeats in the second round of the men's singles qualification. Priyanshu defeated France's Christo Popov 21-17 21-16 in the first round but in the second round, he lost 10-21 24-22 12-21 against Li Xi Feng of China.
Odisha Open champion Kiran defeated Denmark's Viktor Svendsson 21-19 13-21 21-13 in the first round but lost 17-21 21-14 16-21 against Germany's Kei Schaefer in the second round. Shubhankar defeated France's Arnode Merkle 21-16 17-21 21-17 in the first round but lost 14-21 21-18 7-21 against Denmark's Mads Christophersen. The main draw is scheduled to begin on Wednesday.
