New Delhi: A police sub-inspector involved in the much-talked-about Batla House encounter has died tragically in a road accident. He received several major awards, including the President's Medal. Sub Inspector Sanjeev Kumar, who succumbed to his injuries during treatment, was injured in a road accident in Delhi's Baba Haridas Nagar area on December 28. Police have handed over the body to the family after postmortem.

52-year-old Sanjeev Kumar was involved in the Batla House encounter. He has also been awarded the President's Police Medal and the Gallantry Medal. ASI Sanjeev Kumar was crossing the road on foot after parking his car in front of Baba Haridas Nagar police station on December 28 when he was hit by an oncoming speeding motorcycle, after which he was seriously injured.

Surprisingly, when the investigation took place, it was found that three youths were on board the collision motorcycle, and were being worn without helmets. The youth was also injured in the accident, but Sanjeev suffered more injuries. He also suffered severe head injuries after which he was admitted to Venkatesh Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
