The govt of Assam has decided to bestow the 'Asom Baibhav,' the state's highest civilian honour, on legendary industrialist Ratan Tata. The award ceremony will take place in Guwahati, the state capital, on Monday, January 24, 2022.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that, due to his health issues, Ratan Tata would be unable to travel Assam on Monday to accept the award personally.

The award will be awarded to him during a meeting in Mumbai at a later date to be decided.  In light of this, Tata Sons' former Chairman wrote a letter to Assam CM Sarma, regretting his inability to visit Assam and thanking him for the decision to grant him the Asom Baibhav 2021.

Tata added in the letter that he is very moved and thankful for the Assam government's decision to grant him the Asom Baibhav award for the year 2021.

He went on to praise the Assam CM, characterizing himself as a fan of Sarma's personal devotion to the Assamese people's well-being. He stated that earning the award from the Assam Chief Minister is a great honour for him.
