Guwahati: At least 5 people lost their lives when unidentified miscreants set fire to seven trucks in Assam's Dima Hasao district on Thursday night. An Assam Police official said that 5 unidentified miscreants torched at least seven trucks near the Diungbara area of Dima Hasao. According to the report, Assam Police suspects that Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) members are behind the incident near Dismao village on Umarango Lanka Road.

Police said a police team rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident and recovered five charred bodies. Police said a group of suspected miscreants of Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) fired at trucks in the Rangerbeel area, about five km from Diunmukh police station, on Thursday night. Police said two truck drivers were shot dead, while three others died after militants set their trucks on fire.

He said the trucks were carrying coal from Umrangshu in Dima Hasao to Lanka in Hozai district when the attack took place. Police said a search operation has been launched to nab the militants. A senior district police official said security has been tightened across the area. Meanwhile, truck owners have claimed that the militants had asked them for money. He also appealed to the authorities to ensure their safety.
