Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi declared the entire state as ‘Disturbed Area’ for six months starting February 27 ahead of the elections.
The state government issues a releases regarding the declaration of Disturbed Area of Assam.

The releases said,  “As per powers conferred under Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, the Governor of Assam has declared the entire state of Assam as ‘disturbed area’ up to six months beyond February 27, 2021, unless withdrawn earlier." The Assam governor's new order is an extension of a similar move on August 28 last year, when the state was declared a ‘Disturbed Area’ for six months.  No reason has been cited by the Government for the extension of the ‘disturbed area’ status.

Meanwhile, over 1000 militants belonging to five different rebel outfits from the Karbi Anglong region of the state had laid down arms in front of Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday. The groups are People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK), Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF), Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT), Kuki Liberation Front (KLF) and United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA).
