Nagaon: Assam's flood situation remains dire as torrential rains hit the state on Tuesday, affecting 2,02,385 people in 24 districts.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, the flood has affected 24 districts in the state, including Bajali, Baksa, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Dima-Hasao, Hojai, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong West, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Nagaon, Nalbari. As of May 16, landslides have also been reported in the districts of Dima Hasao, Karimganj, and Hailakandi.

The flood has devastated 811 communities in the state, with 1,277 houses entirely ruined and 5,262 partially damaged. Floods have affected around 1.97 lakh people in 20 districts across the state in the last 24 hours. Flood floods overwhelmed new regions in the Kampur area of Assam's Nagaon district, displacing roughly 16,000 people.
Many people were forced to flee their houses after floodwaters inundated them, seeking refuge in schools and high ground. At Neamatighat in Jorhat district and Kopili river in Nagaon district, the water level of the Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger level mark. The flood condition in Nagaon district's Kampur region has disrupted everyday life.

It surpassed the previous peak flood level of 61.79 metres on Monday. The Kopili River's flooding flooded several villages and farms.
