Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -led government in Assam has decided to close Madrasas and Sanskrit schools run by the state government. The government is now going to convert these institutions into schools and now students will be taught general courses there. Assam Education Minister Hemant Biswa Sarma said this while talking to the media.

The Education Minister of Assam while talking to the media said, 'If students read religious books from government funds, then Bhagavad Gita should be taught in Sanskrit schools too. We have decided to close all madrasas and Sanskrit schools in the state. Because it is not the government's job to provide religious books to these institutions. Hemant Biswa Sarma stated that, 'Madrasas and Sanskrit schools in the state will be converted into high schools and higher secondary schools and the work will be completed in three to four months. '
