NEW DELHI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal met Minister of State for External Affairs V Murlidharan at his residence on Sunday. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the role of Assam and North East states to strengthen India's relations with South East Asian countries.

CM Sonowal said that various States in the North-East, including Assam, can play an important role in building India's relations with South Asian nations. With the strengthening of economic, strategic and cultural ties, these countries can come closer to India which will benefit the country in the long run.

Sonowal urged Union Minister of State for External Affairs V. Murlidharan to make better use of his role so that the entire North-Eastern states, including Assam, would benefit directly from the betterrelations of India's relations with South Asian countries. After the visit in Dispur, the CM said that the 'Act East Policy' is the priority of PM Narendra Modi and it was originally he talked about taking it forward.

Since good educational and cultural cooperation between these countries and India can play a big role in improving relations with South Asian countries, these efforts should encourage the people of South Asian nations to have direct relations with the people of India. CM Sonowal said that india's direct link with these nations should be considered to improve relations with The South East Asian nations. Building good networks of air routes, roads and railways between these nations and India will help connect these nations with them, therefore, the Government should take note of it.
