Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday (July 12) introduced the 'Assam Cattle Protection Bill, 2021' a bill on cattle conservation in the state assembly to curb the killing and sale of cattle. CM Sarma said the new law aims to curb the sale and purchase of beef at places other than the ones prescribed by the competent authorities.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday (July 12) introduced the 'Assam Cattle Protection Bill, 2021' a bill on cattle conservation in the state assembly to curb the killing and sale of cattle. Sarma said the new law aims to curb the sale and purchase of beef at places other than the ones fixed by competent authorities. The Bill proposes to move cattle from one district to another in the absence of proper papers and make the sale and purchase of beef illegal elsewhere. At the same time, the offense under the new proposed law 'Assam Cattle Protection Bill, 2021' will be non-bailable.

Anyone found guilty can be imprisoned for at least three years and a maximum of 8 years or a fine ranging from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh and both. Under the new law, if a convict is found guilty of the same or associated offense for the second time, his sentence will be doubled.
