Assam: Madan Kalita, former Congress MLA dies of cardiac arrest

Madan Kalita, a former Congress MLA from Assam, died of a heart attack in Guwahati on Friday night. He was 69 years old .

Around midnight, Kalita complained of chest trouble and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Kalita is survived by his wife Charu Kalita, two daughters, and a son. In 2001, he was elected to the Nalbari seat as a Congress MLA.

Kalita was denied a ticket by the Congress party in the 2006 Assembly elections. In 2006 and 2011, he ran unsuccessfully for the Assam Assembly from the Nalbari constituency. Kalita was born in Sathamow village in Nalbari in 1953 and graduated from Cotton College in 1972.

Bhupen Bora, president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), expressed his condolences on the death of the former MP. The former Nalbari District Congress Committee president was also a former Congress MLA.

At Hyderabad airport, gold worth Rs 1.36 crore was seized.
