Guwahati: Lok Sabha MP and President of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has urged the Muslims of Assam to respect the sentiments of Hindus. Ajmal has appealed not to sacrifice cows on the occasion of Eid-ul-Ajmal (Bakrid). Ajmal is also the head of the Assam State Jamiat Ulama (ASJU), the apex body of leading organisations of Islamic scholars belonging to the Deobandi School of Think.

Ajmal said, "Some people of RSS want to destroy Hindustan by trying to create a Hindu Rashtra. Hindu Raj will never be there in their dreams. They cannot break the unity between Muslims and Hindus in this country. If you don't eat a cow for a day on Eid, you won't die. We celebrate it with Hindu brothers. All our ancestors were Hindus. They came to Islam because it has a special quality, which is to respect the sentiments of other religions.''

AIUDF chief Ajmal had recently said that the Sanatan Dharma of Hindus considers the cow as a mother and worships it. We should not hurt their religious sentiments. He said the Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband had made a public request in 2008 that the cow should not be sacrificed on Bakrid. He had said that there is no mention of compulsion that the cow itself has to be sacrificed.
