Guwahati: A sensational incident has been reported from Raha town in Nagaon district of Assam. There, on Thursday (April 22, 2021), a 12-year-old Karbi girl was allegedly burnt. According to media reports, the girl worked in a house and was asking the owner for permission to go home early. But the owner of the house refused and the accused then poured kerosene on the minor and burnt him alive. The incident is said to have taken place at 2 pm on Thursday.

The deceased girl Sumila Rongappi was reportedly working at the house of the accused owner for the past five years. It was also informed that fast-track checks are being conducted under the supervision of senior officials.

Expressing anger over the incident, the Karbi Students Union said, "We strongly condemn the brutal murder of the girl. She had been working with her owner at Roha in Morigaon, Assam for the past five years. We demand the death penalty for the accused and compensation to the victim's family. If the Assam Government is not able to bring the culprits to justice, we will fight a legal battle".
