Guwahati: A patient was assaulted by his family members after his death at a covid care centre in Hojai district of Assam. So far, 24 accused have been arrested following Tuesday's incident, including the names of Mohammad Qamaruddin, Mohammad Jainaluddin, Rehnuddin, Sayeedul Alam, Rahimuddin, Rajul Islam, Tayyber Rahman and Sahil Islam. The victim, Dr. Seju Kumar Senapati, is serving at the Udali Covid Care Centre.

Assam Special DGP GP Singh informed about the case and said that he had directed the Hojai SP to arrest all the accused immediately. This was followed by the arrest of 8 accused till midnight on Tuesday itself. G P Singh assured that one convict each will be punished as per law. 24 accused were arrested till 4 pm the next day. The accused include a woman who can be seen assaulting the doctor in the video.

The Special DGP has assured that a strong chargesheet will be prepared in the case in the shortest possible time so that evidence and witnesses can be produced against the accused in the court. The video of the incident had gone viral on social media in which a large number of accused entered the hospital and stripped clothes of doctor and dragged him to death. The doctor was beaten with kicks. One of them was hitting the doctor with a pot in his hand.
