Assam: Petrol prices hit new highs on Sunday, October 10 as rates were hiked for the sixth consecutive day, with the price of petrol crossing Rs 100 in Guwahati. Many districts have already crossed the 100 mark. Along with this, the price of diesel was also increased by 37 paise on Saturday. The recent hike in fuel prices is the 10th hike this week across India, while the prices have already gone up 13 times since September 24. Petrol in Guwahati is Rs 100.07 per litre.

In a country like India, which was facing economic fallout due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the rise in fuel prices is affecting the lives of those whose lives are directly or indirectly affected by the price hike. Earlier, the price of domestic non-subsidised LPG cylinders was increased by Rs 15 from October 6 by oil marketing companies. In the capital Delhi, petrol prices crossed the ₹104-mark as they increased by 30 paise to ₹104.14 per liter from ₹103.84 per liter, while diesel rates were hiked by 35 paise, from ₹92.47. increased to ₹ 92.82.

Petrol prices in Mumbai increased by 29 paise to Rs 110.12 per liter, while diesel prices increased by 37 paise to Rs 100.66 per liter. Of the four metro cities, Mumbai has the highest fuel rates, according to state-run oil refiners. Fuel rates vary from state to state due to Value Added Tax or VAT.
