Guwahati: In a joint operation by Assam Police and the Border Security Forces (BSF), five Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended in Assam's South Salmara Mankachar district. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the arrest on X (formerly Twitter), detailing that an auto carrying the infiltrators was intercepted in Mankachar.

The apprehended individuals—Akash Ali, Safikul Mandal, Sabina Akter, Pinki Akter, Santa, and the auto driver Akhirul Islam—revealed during questioning that they had crossed into India from Sherpur. The Chief Minister also indicated that an Indian national named Pappan from South Salmara Mankachar is allegedly involved in the infiltration network. Measures are being taken to deport the individuals and further investigate the nexus.

Earlier in September, Assam police successfully identified and deported several Bangladeshi nationals, including Toyu Shaikh and Shahadat Hussain, pushing them back to Bangladesh. In total, 26 illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators have been apprehended and returned to their country this month.
