Assam police nab another 'Taliban supporter,' total 16 arrested so far

Guwahati: Assam Police has arrested another person three days after he arrested several people, including a state police constable, a senior leader of the state unit of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, a medical student, and a journalist, in connection with a social media post in support of the Taliban, a terror group in Afghanistan.

Assam Police itself has informed about the same. According to media reports, the man who worked in a tire shop in the Jorabat area of Guwahati had written a post on Facebook in support of the Taliban. Assam Police had arrested 15 persons before the arrest. All of them had made various comments and shared videos on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook praising the Taliban's victory in Afghanistan. The arrests were made from various districts of the state on August 20 and 21.

According to Assam Police, two persons each were arrested from Kamrup Metropolitan, Barpeta, Dhubri, and Karimganj districts. However, one person each from Darang, Cachar, Hailakandi, South Salmara, Golpara, and Hozai districts has been arrested. Meanwhile, police are constantly interrogating the arrested persons to ascertain any possible links with the Islamic group.
