Guwahati: Assam Police has arrested two members of terrorist organization 'Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT)' from Morigaon district. The names of these terrorists have been mentioned as Musadiq Hussain and Ikramul Islam. Morigaon district SP Aparna N confirmed the action. He said that both the terrorists have been arrested on Monday (September 12, 2022) and both of them are currently being interrogated.
According to media reports, among the two arrested terrorists, Ikramul Imam was caught from Naugaon in Assam. The other suspect, Hussain, was arrested from the Moribari area of Morigaon. According to SP Aparna, the police have enough evidence of the two terrorists being associated with ABT. It is noteworthy that the anti-terrorism operation of Assam Police has gained momentum after getting input about the activities of not only the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) but also Al Qaeda in the state. Earlier, the police had arrested two terrorists from the Barpeta district of Assam. During the investigation, his connection was also found to al Qaeda.
In the last one month, the Assam Police has arrested more than 40 suspected jihadis, whose connections with terrorists have been found. Many suspects are still absconding, who are being searched by the police. On August 26, the Assam Police nabbed a mufti named Hafizur Rahman from a madrasa in Goalpara. After this arrest, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also ordered action against many illegal and anti-national madrasas giving education.
