Five suspected rhino poachers were detained in Biswanath, along with a rhino horn. Jamir Ahmed, Hamid Sheikh, Aslam Sheikh, Ghanashyam Gupta, and Mantu Chamuah were among those arrested.

According to reports, they were detained based on evidence that one of the arrested, Aslam Sheikh, had sold the rhino horn for Rs 70 lakh, and the police started an operation based on this piece of information, successfully tracking Sheikh.

The remaining four were apprehended based on Sheikh's statement after his detention. The horn was supposed to belong to a rhino that was recently killed in Kaziranga's Kohora range. However, in order to determine if the horn was genuine or not, the police have submitted it for forensic analysis.

It should be mentioned that the Assam Police Department has issued a wanted notice for three people accused of being engaged in the rhino poaching in January.

The police have offered a cash reward for information leading to their arrest and recovery of the horn. However, whether the detained individuals were poachers or wildlife traffickers has yet to be determined.
