Assam Police collected Rs 4 crore as fines from traffic violators

The Assam Police Force said on Thursday that it had collected Rs 4 crore in penalties from traffic offenders during its December controlling.

Harmeet Singh, the commissioner of Guwahati police, stated that during the drive on offenders, the police had collected penalties totaling Rs 2.5 crore each month until November. "However, in December, the police were able to collect Rs 4 crores," he added.In only 15-20 days, about 22,000 persons were fined for not wearing helmets, according to him. The police have also arrested 600 people for drunk driving in the last week.

Their licences were all suspended, and they were each fined Rs 10,000.  To ensure that no accidents occur around the New Year, the traffic police stated they will be on high alert to track down drunk drivers in the city. Officials from the traffic police department have stated that they have devised a strategic strategy to reduce accidents in the city, especially in the new year.

The police department has been asked by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to ensure that no accidents occur during the New Year celebrations.
