Police kill two ‘dacoits’ in 13th encounter since May 10

Guwahati: 23 criminals have been killed in an encounter with Assam police in an encounter on Saturday night with two suspected dacoits killed and 23 criminals killed in an encounter during nearly 100 days. In Assam, police gunned down two suspected dacoits in Golpara district of western Assam on Saturday night amid a dispute raised by various political parties, rights groups, and civil society over alleged police encounters.

This was the 13th such encounter since Himanta Biswa Sarma became CM on May 10. In a tweet, Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that two dacoits Rafjuddin Ali Basit Ali were killed in the firing while Rashidul Islam was injured and admitted to the hospital. We are looking for a fourth partner, he said. All of them have cases of dacoity registered against them. A gun has been recovered from the car in which they were traveling. Last night Golpara police had to chase the culprits.

According to police, the first encounter between security forces criminals took place on May 23. When six activists of the banned Dimasa National Liberation Army were gunned down in Karbi Anglong district. Two United Revolutionary People's Front militants were killed in the second encounter in the same district on June 20.
