Guwahati: Two government employees have been arrested for stealing before the third and final phase of polling in Assam. This matter is of the office of the Election Commission of Barpeta district. Two government employees have been arrested from here stealing 55 lakh rupees. At present, the police are investigating further. 

According to media reports, this theft incident occurred on Saturday morning of April 3. After which an FIR has been lodged in the police station of Barpeta. In this case, the police arrested two government employees for alleged theft of Rs 55 lakh. The stolen money has also been recovered from them. According to the police, both the arrested employees worked in the Election Commission's office. One of them was a computer operator and the other was working as a junior assistant.

The amount that was stolen was to be spent on the employees engaged in election duty during the last phase of voting on 6 April. Police said that the final phase of polling in Assam is to be held on April 6. During this time, 55 lakh rupees were withdrawn on April 2 for the breakfast, water, and expenses of the employees whose duty was to be held in the election. This money was kept in the election officer's chamber. This money was stolen from there. The police also informed that the stolen amount has been recovered from 5 different locations in the city. At present, the investigation of the case is going on.
