During the massive Mahashivratri celebrations in Assam's Cachar district, two devotees were found dead under mysterious circumstances. The incident occurred on March 1st at Bhuban Hills, a 17th century Shiva temple in Assam's Cachar district, near the Manipur border. 

According to a member of the Bhuban Mela committee, one of the deceased has been identified as Bikramjit Paul, 42, a native of Silchar's Bilpar area.  According to reports, Pual died on Tuesday morning while climbing a hilly route towards the Bhuban Hills. While climbing the mountain to visit the temple to worship on the auspicious festival of Maha Shivratri, Paul is said to have died of heart arrest.

After receiving information of a man's body lying in a strange condition near the Shiva shrine, police arrived on the scene.Paul was rushed to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), where doctors confirmed that he was already dead. An unidentified woman was found dead near a sacred temple in Bhuban Hills on the same day and in the same place. The lady's identity and other related details were unknown at the time of filing the incident report, according to reports.

The woman's dead remains were taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for medical investigation and a postmortem report, according to Kachudaram Police Station authorities. More than 4 lakh devotees gathered to the Bhuban Hills on Monday, February 28th, and Tuesday, March 1st to execute key rites and worship Lord Shiva during the Mahashivratri festival, according to officials. It should be mentioned that Mahashivratri was celebrated with zeal in many parts of the state on Tuesday, after a long hiatus caused by the covid pandemic.
