Kolkata: Curfew was imposed on Wednesday in Assam's Guwahati and Dibrugarh for indecency in view of the protests over the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 (CAB) being approved by Parliament. The Army has been deployed in Guwahati and Jorhat in Assam, while Assam Rifles troops have been deployed in Tripura.

On Thursday (December 12), all flights to Dibrugarh in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, have been canceled. While giving information, Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahant had told that the curfew will remain in force till 7 am on Thursday. However, he later stated that the curfew has been extended to anesthesia. Internet services have been suspended for 24 hours from 7 pm on Wednesday evening in 10 districts of Assam amid fierce protests in the cities.

The state government officials have said that Internet services will be suspended in order to prevent misuse of social media to disturb the peace and to maintain law and order. Internet services in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaidev, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Kamarup (Metro) and Kamarup will be suspended as per a notification issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home and Political Department) Kumar Sanjay Krishna.
