On Monday morning, a woman's body was found along the Barak river in Cachar's Borkhola. Sumarani Namasudra  identified as the deceased person, according to a police source. On January 19, she allegedly plunged into the Barak River with her two-year-old child and has been missing since then.

On Monday, neighbors found her dead and immediately informed the police. Her child, has yet to be found. The youngster is being sought by the police and disaster assistance agencies.The reason for the woman's jump into the river is unknown, although neighbours believe she did so to avoid family torture.

The police are also questioning her relatives about the incident, and they are investigating into all parts of it, including murder chances.
