Raipur: An Assam writer has been arrested in Guwahati for her Facebook post after 22 soldiers were martyred in a Naxalite attack in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. The 48-year-old writer named Sikhaa Sarma has been arrested by the Guwahati police under the sedition section.

Guwahati Commissioner of Police Munna Prasad Gupta has said that "A case has been registered against Guwahati writer Sikha Sarma in various sections including section 124-A of the IPC". Let us know that Sarma is very active on social media and he allegedly wrote in her post about the martyred soldiers on Monday that, "Salaried professionals who died in their duty cannot be called martyrs. By this logic, if a worker in the electricity department dies due to electric shock, he should also be called a martyr. Media, don't make it public sentiment".

The Assam writer's post was fiercely opposed. On Monday, two lawyers of the Guwahati High Court Umi Deka Barua and Kangkana Goswami lodged an FIR against them at the Dispur police station. It said, "It is completely disrespectful in honor of our soldiers and this kind of lewd remarks not only diminishes the sacrifice of our soldiers but is also a verbal attack on national sentiment and sanctity".
