New Delhi: The Election Commission is reviewing the ban on rallies and public meetings for the upcoming assembly elections. After holding a Commission meeting with the Health Secretary, it will be decided whether to allow rallies, meetings, visits. It is being organized through video conferencing. An official statement on the issue will be issued by the Commission by 2.00 pm.

In the same meeting held on Friday, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra and the two Election Commissioners were unanimous that Corona is growing at a rapid pace and it would be appropriate to continue the ban on the rally. The Election Commission meeting on Friday included the issue of violations committed by the SP. The Commission may also decide to impose an additional penalty on violations in addition to FIR. Police have registered a case in connection with the crowd gathering at the Lucknow Samajwadi Party office. This was reported by Lucknow CP DK Thakur.

The same police officer said that it was reported that about 2,500 people had gathered at the SP office. Our team reached there and stopped the ceremony, the CP of Lucknow said. Also, a case has been registered on the basis of a violation of the rule. The same Commission had banned all rallies till 15th January announcing the election dates and only the virtual campaign was allowed. According to the guidelines issued by the Election Commission at present, there is a ban on political parties taking out any padayatra, cycle tour or roadshows.
