The recently-concluded T20I series against South Africa unveiled various ‘yin and yang’ for the Asian Giants under the leadership of wicketkeeper-batsman Rishab Pant who made his captaincy debut.
Some of the regular players were rested before the series, including, skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah. Whereas Surykumar Yadav was nursing an injury, and KL Rahul, who was initially the captain of the series but bowed out due to an injury, was replaced by Pant.
The young team initially had a hard time finding solid ground but recovered by leveling the series to 2-2.
Ishan Kishan with his blockbuster batting ended up being the lead run-scorer in the series, Hardik Pandya proved yet again that he is the best when under pressure, and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar stopped the batsmen with his slam-bang bowling.
On the other hand, the series was full of disappointment for, Rishabh Pant, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shreyas Iyer, for failing to perform well in cutthroat situations.
With the next edition of the T20 World Cup being just around the corner, the five-match T20I series with South Africa was treated as a way to identify the core team which help India win the race to bring the cup home.
Head Coach Rahul Dravid said that he wants to have a fair idea, by the end of the England T20Is in July, about the 18-20 odd players he would be looking at ahead of the world cup.
