After a journalist, his wife and mother died after the fridge burst, a couple was badly scorched by the AC burst in Chennai. According to reports, Prakash Menon (55) and Bindu (48) along with their two sons lived in an apartment in Shakti Nagar in Porur. At around 12.30am on Tuesday, a spark in their bedroom AC blew up the compressor and filled the room with smoke causing the couple to get trapped inside their bedrooms. His neighbors heard a bang and ran to help the couple. While the neighbors were trying to open the doors of the house, a police patrol vehicle also rushed to the spot and helped save the couple. Police also called fire tenders from Virugambakkam Fire Station and brought the situation under control.

The couple was taken to Kilpuk Medical College Hospital for treatment. While the point has 40% water on the body, the condition of light is better due to low burns. Both their sons escaped the accident as they were in another room.

Just a few days ago, in one such case, a TV journalist, his wife and mother died of suffocation at their home near Tambaram. According to sources, the fire in his fridge had spread to flammable plastic in the house. Toxic fumes put the family to death as they kept their windows locked in their rooms due to AC. According to the preliminary investigation, the fire broke out in the fridge due to high voltage and then spread to other parts of the house due to plastic material. Their bodies were recovered by the police from the living room of their house.
