Aishwarya Babu, who set a new national record among women with a splendid effort of 14.14m in the triple jump event of the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships, has said that 'if you are born you have to achieve something. The 24-year-old from Bengaluru on Monday broke Mayukha Johnny's 2011 national record of 14.11m.

Earlier on Sunday, Aishwarya made a splendid jump of 6.73m in the qualification round of the long jump, which is the second best effort by an Indian female player. A better effort than him is in the name of World Championship bronze medalist Anju Bobby George, who also holds the national record of 6.83m.

The player, who has tried her hand in the 100 and 200 meters hurdles before the triple jump, has said, "I started playing at the age of 8. I initially compete in the 100m and 200m. But later on, I have started participating in jumping. I was interested in sports and my uncle is a decathlete. When asked about joining the game, he said, "I had to achieve something. If you have taken birth then you have to achieve something. Aishwarya's distance of 14.14 meters in triple jump has come to number 14 among all athletes in the world and third among athletes from Commonwealth countries in the current season.

He said- I am busy hoping to break the national record (in triple jump). I had prepared very well for that with a lot of hard work. He has said that - In September last year, I jumped 13.55 meters. I have corrected it by 60 cms. Now my target is to achieve a distance of 14.35 metres.
