World Athletics Championship 2023: Odisha's Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, has honored Kishore Jena for his exceptional performance at the World Athletics Championship. Amid the nationwide jubilation over Neeraj Chopra's historic gold medal triumph in Budapest, Naveen Patnaik took the opportunity to recognize the remarkable accomplishments of a relatively lesser-known athlete hailing from Odisha.

Kishore Jena, a prominent javelin athlete from Odisha, made history by becoming the first individual from his state to represent India in the Finals of the World Athletics Championship held in Budapest. His display of skill and determination led to a praiseworthy fifth-place finish in the championship, achieved through an impressive javelin throw spanning a distance of 84.77 meters – a personal best for Jena.

This landmark event also marked a significant milestone for India, as it was the first instance where three Indian athletes successfully secured positions in the final of a track and field event at the World Championship. Alongside Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena, DP Manu also earned a spot in the final for the men's javelin.
