Imphal: Dr K Soringam of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences allegedly attacked Colin Kshatriyam of CDO Unit, Imphal East District. Dr. Soringam said that he was with his wife Dr. K. They were returning home with Lumthing, who works at the Catholic Medical Center. "In Luwangsangbam, two CDOs were stopped by the police right in front of the CM residence, then I was interrogated.

After slapping me twice, then he asked me who are you then I told him that I am doctor that we are coming from hospital after operation, after which police demanded to see my ID card. Despite showing them my ID proof, they shouted at me and even loaded an AK rifle to threaten me. He hit me on the head with the butt of an AK rifle, which (sic) I blacked out for a few minutes," said Dr. Soringam.

Following this complaint Colin Kshatrimayum of CDO Unit, Imphal East District, has been suspended for allegedly assaulting Dr. Soringam. Following the incident, the teachers' union of JNIMS issued an official statement condemning the violent attack. “The saddest part is that, even after showing his service ID card, an attempt was made to kill him by hitting him on the head with the butt of a service-rifle.” said the general secretary of the association. He made a strong appeal to the government to take appropriate and exemplary action against the "erroneous and barbaric" security personnel.
