New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government at the Centre is seriously monitoring the increasing incidents of Sikh fundamentalism, attacks on temples and vandalism of symbols of Sanatan Dharma in the UK and Canada. It is also considering sending a message to both countries soon. India has strongly protested against the violence against the Indian community in Leicester. A protest has been lodged with the UK authorities regarding this. The government has also taken note of how British security agencies are ignoring the collection of funds by Sikh fundamentalists to promote separatism.

The Modi government has decided to respond to these anti-India incidents in both countries. External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval have taken note of the incidents in the two countries. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has strongly condemned the "referendum" conducted by Russia in Ukraine-occupied territories. But he has turned a blind eye to the so-called referendum organised by the banned "Sikhs for Justice" organisation in Brampton and Ontario on September 19. The Narendra Modi government has sent three diplomatic messages to Global Affairs Canada. Trudeau has asked the government to stop the illegal referendum.

On September 16, the Trudeau government responded to the Modi government, saying Canada respects India's territorial integrity and sovereignty and does not recognise this so-called referendum. Unlike in the case of Ukraine, there was no condemnation by Prime Minister Trudeau of the referendum organised by radical Sikhs. The Trudeau government said in its response that people in Canada have the right to gather and express their views. Canada's response also pointed out that they were distressed by the recent vandalism at the Swaminarayan temple in Brampton, Ontario. All the news has been shared with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
