In a shocking revelation, Police in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh has claimed that a journalist and his friend, who was found burnt in mysterious condition last week, were set on fire by the accused using an alcohol-based sanitizer.

The attackers had allegedly barged into the house of the 37-year-old journalist identified as Rakesh Singh Nirbhik and burnt him alive along with his 34-year-old friend Pintu Sahu at his village in Balrumpur.

Nirbhik used to work for a Lucknow-based newspaper Rashtriya Swaroop. While Nirbhik had suffered severe burn injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Lucknow where he died during the treatment, Sahu had succumbed to his injuries on the spot.  Before his death, Nirbhik reportedly told doctors that he had been writing against the alleged corruption by the village head and her.

Police have now arrested the three accused including the son of the village head.
