New Delhi: A worrying news has emerged amid declining corona infection cases in India. The new variant of the Corona virus, which has wreaked havoc in Britain and many European countries, Delta Plus- AY.4.2 has now been found in India as well. These variants are more contagious than delta variants.

Dr. Anurag Aggarwal, Director, CSIR Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology said that the data for AY.4.2 has just came from UK and some cases have been registered in India as well. He explained that scientists are monitoring it. There is no evidence yet in this regard whether the new variant is weakening immunity developed from the covid vaccine. At the same time, there is still little evidence that infection diseases and deaths are also linked to this new mutation.

A scientist at the INSACOG said that the cases of this variant will be announced soon. INSACOG is a consortium of laboratories working on corona's genomic sequence. According to INSACOG, 4,737 cases of AY variants have been registered in India till October 11.
