According to a senior corporate executive, Audi is considering the viability of producing electric vehicles domestically in India in order to increase volume. Because the German manufacturer wants to go all-electric by 2033, the company stated that it is only a matter of time until EVs are produced locally, citing the positive response to its electric goods thus far.

Balbir Singh Dhillon, the head of Audi India, said the firm is doing a continual review to determine the acceptance of electric mobility in the nation. "However, you must realise that we, as Audi India or Audi AG, have already resolved to become an all-electric car firm by 2033." As a result, it's only a matter of time. It's a question of when, not if, that we'll do it," Dhillon remarked.

In the last seven months, Audi India has released five electrified vehicles in the nation. The e-tron 50, e-tron 55, e-tron Sportback 55, e-tron GT, and RS e-tron GT are the new electric automobiles. In India, the brand had a two-fold increase in retail sales, with 3,293 units sold last year compared to 1,639 units in 2020. "It has been a huge success so far." "This is one category that has really done considerably better than we had anticipated," Dhillon added.

Audi India's CEO further stated that the company's EV product line is now robust enough to meet consumer expectations in the next years. Mercedes-Benz, Audi's main competitor, has announced that it will domestically construct its EQS electric car in India, with a debut planned for the fourth quarter of 2022. The all-electric SUV EQC, which was released as a completely imported unit in October 2020 at a price of Rs 1.7 crore, will be joined by this new EV.
